Rice | Glutinous rice


Glutinous rice is a white milky long grain of rice. Besides the perfumed rice, this kind of rice is very well known in Southeast Asia.


It is often used to make sweet dishes because of its sweet taste. Sticky rice is therefore called ketan, sweet or sticky rice. This rice becomes sticky after cooking because it contains a lot of rice starch. In Laos and Thailand, glutinous rice is served with some dishes instead of perfumed rice.


You can prepare glutinous rice in 2 ways: steaming or boiling. If you were to steam it, you must first soak the rice for at least 4 to 10 hours. Glutinous rice is also processed into glutinous rice flour, which together with rice flour is a good substitute for wheat flour.
